A Classical Grab trick that is around for a long time and it can be done either on flat ground or on ramps, pools, and every kind of transition object. It is even popular in the snowboarding world. The best feeling is when you can fly out of the ramp coping or a pool and squeeze the long and steezy grab and fly back into the curve like nothing. That is unfortunately a harder nut to crack than it seems because you must be very well familiar with transitions and this takes a lot of time before you are able to fly like Danny Way.
Therefore we will guide you through the basics of flat ground Roastbeef Grab which also looks awesome especially if your Ollies are proper and you can go over a hydrant or a decent gap.
Prepare yourself for the best Ollie you can get. Higher pop means longer air time and a longer grab which is the main point. You can also adjust more speed if you are comfortable enough. Pop into a regular Ollie and before you hit the peak of the air, put your backhand between your legs and grab the center of the board on the inner side, so where your heels are.
Try to hold it as long as possible before landing which is no different than with the regular Ollies. Holding a board until the very last moment will cause a bit of instability at the landing and you will probably land on your hips with the first tries but this is a must with every trick isn`t it? Another mistake you can do is that you are too focused on the grab and you become too stiff when pop-ing you won’t be able to grab at all. In this case, try to relax `cause sooner or later you will start to feel it and it will stay with you forever!
